Pediatric Hospitalists at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital (IFOH) offers a fully staffed Pediatric Hospitalist Team who is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is committed to providing and ensuring excellent care of all pediatric patients at IFOH.

All pediatric hospitalists are board-certified in pediatrics and maintain certification in pediatric advanced life support (PALS) and neonatal resuscitation (NRP). They have extensive experience in all aspects of hospital care from the newborn through adolescence.

The Pediatric Hospitalist Team is quite active throughout the entire hospital. The pediatric hospitalists care for nearly 80% of all the well newborns delivered at IFOH. They attend high- risk vaginal deliveries, all cesarean sections, and assist the neonatologists in the NICU (newborn intensive care unit). They also offer pediatric consultation services to the private physicians who attend on their own patients as well as the surgical team. Additionally, at the request of the emergency department (ED) providers, they evaluate pediatric patients in the pediatric ED, admit them to the pediatric unit or assist in their transfer to other hospitals if deemed necessary. Private care providers may call anytime and speak directly to one of the pediatric hospitalists who will assist them in facilitating the care of their patient in any area of the hospital.

The pediatric unit at IFOH offers 8 private rooms and each room includes a bed that comfortably accommodates overnight stays by a family member. The pediatric hospitalists have access to Inova Children’s Hospital network of specialty physicians in person, by phone, or via teleconference should specialty input be needed. Additionally, the Child Life Program is available to help ease kids’ anxiety and stress.

The pediatric hospitalists are part of Fairfax Neonatal Associates, an organization that has been providing care for the infants and children of Northern Virginia for more than 40 years.
