Between 2 and 4% of children suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, probably a similar number have periodic limb movement disorder, and more than a third of children have behavioral sleep problems.
The mission of The Pediatric Sleep Center is to raise awareness of sleep disorders in children, to work to prevent and treat sleep problems, and to maximize the health and development of children.
The Pediatric Sleep Center offers comprehensive assessment and treatment of sleep-related problems, specializing in the care of children from infancy through age 20 years. The Pediatric Sleep Center is unique in this area in that it includes a Sleep Disorders Clinic led by an experienced physician who is Board Certified in Sleep Medicine and Pediatric Pulmonology.
The Pediatric Sleep Center provides consultation and follow-up on the full range of pediatric sleep disorders, including medical problems such as snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, circadian rhythm disorders including delayed sleep phase syndrome, and behavioral sleep problems including difficulty falling asleep and frequent night wakings. We also offer CPAP desensitization, management, and compliance programs.
The sleep laboratory of The Pediatric Sleep Center has state-of-the-art equipment and is staffed by registered technologists experienced in handling children. In addition to diagnostic sleep studies and Multiple Sleep Latency Tests, we offer polysomnography with CPAP, BiPAP and oxygen titrations, measurement of end tidal carbon dioxide levels, transcutaneous carbon dioxide monitoring, and actigraphy.
